Ball thrust bearing is a type of bearing that is included in category of ball bearing. It manly deals with the axial force as it deals with the force that is acting as parallel to the axis. It may also be termed as block bearing. Their purpose is to allow rotation between the two parts. They are designed to achieve high speed performances, but it is compatible only for those were loads are generally kept lower.

Single thrust bearing
Single thrust bearings as the name indicates are designed to permit rotation of the two parts in between the two where it is lying as well as to carry load in one direction. It generally consists of a set of balls, which are located in a retainer along with two rings that are fitted above as well as below the retainer containing set of rings.
Double thrust bearing
Double thrust bearing as the name indicates are designed to permit rotation between different arts and also carry the load in both sides and directions. Thrust ball bearing of this type mainly consists of a rotating ring which is present in the middle hosting the two ball tracks which are present above as well as downwards and two stationary rings covering these two ball tracks.
As mentioned earlier they are designed in such a way that balls present in the retainer are tracked in such a way that forces present between the tracks and the balls become parallel to shaft’s axis. This quality allows it to perform well at higher speeds, but they are not compatible for heavy loads. In addition to that due to the centrifugal forces acting on the balls limit thisball thrust bearing to perform well in case of speed of outer operation.
Ball Thrust bearings are generally used for such applications where bearings have to face little or no radial load.
